Education

Committed to students & teachersMaking sure Missouri’s education system is well run to prepare our students for the future is one of Susan’s top priorities. As a young girl she was shaped by the examples of her grandmother, Sue Humphrey, an outspoken and longtime Missouri school teacher who taught for nearly 79 years! With three children of her own, she knows the value of a public school system that educates students to be competitive in both the workforce and the pursuit of a higher education.

As State Auditor, Susan worked tirelessly to make sure school districts across Missouri performed up to expectations. When Missouri voters passed a ballot measure to lift the loss limits on gaming and send much needed additional funds to the schools, Susan laid bare the tactics of the legislature who changed to law to unfairly deprive schools of vital funds.

An Education System We Can Be Proud Of

The protection and safety of our students while in the care of the school system is also of vital interest to Susan. In 2008 she led a state audit that exposed a gross negligence in the hiring of school employees. Bus drivers entrusted with the safety of our children were shown to have failed criminal background checks, but were still being hired and on the job. Susan Montee will bring the very same scrutiny of our public school system to the Lieutenant Governor’s office.
